He was most successful, and so it was that when he came to power, he summoned a man named Muhammad Darduk, appointed him to a high position, and sent him out to protect the wealth of the Arab Majanin tribe, a great tribe whose people owned sheep. From this wealth, he took camels and cattle. He settled with a poor man called Jiddo, who hosted him to the best of his ability. This man was from a noble family, and his father had been a great king. When the orphan came to power, he appointed him to his father's position. I met him, and among other things, the faqih Malik al-Futaawi, whom we mentioned earlier, had a dream about him. In his dream, he saw the heavens open and people looking at him, saying, "This is the orphan who will rule." The faqih told him that if his dream was true, he would raise his status. And so it was. He consistently fasted on Mondays and Thursdays, and also fasted during Rajab, Sha'ban, and Ramadan. He loved and honored scholars. Before his appointment, he was a baba (a religious leader) for a while. Then, the Munjin and the astrologers cast lots, and it was revealed that the orphan would succeed Sultan Tirab. The Sultan heard of this, became enraged, and repeatedly wanted to kill him. He would invite the orphan for meals and put poison in the food. The orphan would say, "If your dream is true..."
