In truth, women in all Sudanese Arab tribes have a distinct role, and the history of the Shashiqiya tribe exemplifies women's participation with men in fighting and planning for it. Among the Shashiqiya, Adeela bint Osman wad Hamad al-Mirabi was famous. She liberated the Shashiqiya during one of their historical periods from the tribute of the Sultan of Sennar. This Adeela was a warrior who knew combat and its allure so well that she surpassed men in this regard. She fought alongside the warriors, and perhaps she initiated the custom for the Shashiqiya horsemen of having women lead the ranks of fighters and be the ones to teach the battle. This practice might be even older among the Shashiqiya.

There is also Meera bint Ubaid, Sheikh al-Sawari, and Sabbaghia bint al-Malik Sabir. The names of these two young women appeared in the events of the Battle of Kobi, which pitted the horsemen of the Shashiqiya against the soldiers of Muhammad Ali Pasha.

Women's roles in events related to family relationships, caring for children, spinning, preparing food, and making some household necessities, such as making ghee from the "Hadar" stage or making it with ghee, and making "al-sabala," "al-brosh," and "al-qifaf," and all the tools the household needs for daily use. The "brosh" are made from the fronds of the "al-qudum" or palm trees.

As for women's agriculture, their share does not constitute wages from agricultural efforts. The women are left with the "al-huroof" to cultivate. Strangely, women here are entitled to their full right in the "al-jarf" or "al-jarif" land, which is the land adjacent to the Nile where "al-karkabi" is abundant – cracked mud rich in clay. However, women are prevented from taking their share in the rest of the land beyond the "al-jarf" when this land is irrigated. Men cultivate the irrigated land among themselves and neglect to give women their rightful share in that land, which is a legitimate right guaranteed by God. It is a divine law, not a human law to be left to people's whims or moods. Despite this, the people of the region say that you voluntarily relinquished this irrigated land.
