The governor of Acre, loyal to our obedience, was whispered to by the whisperer of the hidden one who whispers in the chests of men until he seduced him, or almost did. But God's grace reached him, so he returned. Between them arose such enmity and animosity that war broke out between the two parties. Ibrahim, son of Muhammad Ali Pasha al-Makhazin, mentioned, came with a vast army to Jaffa, and conquered it. The governor of Tripoli and Damascus, al-Sham, entered it. Then he advanced towards Acre, besieged it, and fought it. He paid no heed to the messages we sent him, filled with advice and appeasement, nor did he turn from his error and misguidance. Rather, he rushed after his desires until they captivated him. Despite all this, we did not hasten to hold him accountable or punish him. We gave him ample time, out of respect for blood and mercy for God's servants, whose care was entrusted to divine providence. We hoped he would find within himself a deterrent from embarking on this rough path and persisting in disobedience to the successor of the Messenger of the Lord of the Worlds, and return to the path of truth after this deviation, misguidance, and apostasy. May he repent and seek forgiveness for what his hands have done. We have sent to this apostate, the esteemed one, so that he may desist. But now the time has come, and the inevitable fate has arrived. There is no longer any reason for leniency or delay. However, we still forgive those who come to our door willingly, confessing their sin, and those who participated in the treason of disobedience under duress, even if they were his sons, family, kin, holders of high positions and important posts, senior officers, and soldiers, and others. We have issued this exalted decree, entrusting the governorship of Egypt, the Levant, Jerid, and Abyssinia, along with their dependencies, to you. We have ordered you to seize them from the hands of those apostates. We are certain of your good knowledge and understanding of all matters, and your bravery in invasion and jihad. By the will of God Almighty and the blessings of His chosen Prophet, peace be upon him, you will march with the victorious army to Aleppo, then descend to the lands of Egypt, and seize all the lands from the hands of those traitors. Remember my compassion and do not forget my forgiveness for those who repent and return to the obedience of God, His Messenger, and His successor after him. Trust in God and purify your intention, and God will make a way out of every hardship for you. Peace. So Hussein Pasha marched with his army, numbering about sixty thousand, cavalry and infantry. He delayed his march until Prince Ibrahim was able to arrange his army as he wished and prepare to meet the Sultan's army. The news of this reached Muhammad Ali Pasha, so he began to make extensive preparations, realizing that the matter had reached a critical point and that harmony was impossible, leaving only combat and struggle until God judges between him and his successor, for He is the most just of judges. The vanguard of the Sultan's army reached the vicinity of Aleppo. Prince Ibrahim came out with his army to meet them, fought them, and persevered in fighting them until he defeated them and scattered their forces. Then he advanced with his cavalry and infantry until he entered Aleppo and occupied it. The remaining forces of the Sultan's army dispersed. The news of this reached Hussein Pasha, so he gathered those who remained with him and fortified himself in the pass of Belen, the most important pass in the Taurus Mountains. Prince Ibrahim learned of his news and his situation, so he left Aleppo to fight him. When the two armies met, they fought fiercely. They continued until the Sultan's army was completely defeated. Prince Ibrahim seized their belongings, their animals, and their weapons, and pursued those who remained.
