From Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah, he said: "A black banner will emerge for the Banu al-Abbas, then another black one will emerge from Khurasan. Their people are dark-skinned, and their clothes are white. At their forefront is a man called Shu'ayb ibn Salih, from Tamim. They will defeat the companions of Sufyan until they descend to Jerusalem, paving the way for the Mahdi." From Abu Ja'far, he said: "A young man from the Banu Hashim will emerge from Khurasan with black banners, with a mole on his right hand, and Shu'ayb ibn Salih will be before him. He will fight the companions of Sufyani and defeat them." From my uncle, he said: "Black banners will emerge, fighting Sufyani. Among them is a young man from the Banu Hashim, with a mole on his left shoulder, and at the forefront is a man from the Banu Tamim called Shu'ayb ibn Salih. He will defeat his companions." From my uncle ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "When the cavalry of Sufyani goes out to Kufa, he will send for the people of Khurasan. The people of Khurasan will emerge for the Mahdi with black banners. Shu'ayb ibn Salih will be at their forefront. He and the companions of Sufyani will meet at the gate of Istakhr, and there will be a great battle between them. The black banners will be victorious, and the cavalry of Sufyani will be routed. At that time, people will wish for the Mahdi and seek him." From my uncle, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "Sufyani and the black banners will meet. Among them is a young man from the Banu Hashim, with a mole on his left hand, and at the forefront is a man from the Banu Tamim called Shu'ayb ibn Salih, at the gate of Istakhr. There will be a great battle between them. The black banners will be victorious, and the cavalry of Sufyani will be routed. At that time, people will wish for the Mahdi and seek him." From my uncle, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "When the black banners defeat the cavalry of Sufyani, in which Shu'ayb ibn Salih is, people will wish for the Mahdi and seek him. Then he will emerge from Mecca with the banner of the Prophet, peace be upon him. He will pray two rak'ahs after people have despaired of his emergence due to the length of their trials. When he finishes his prayer, he will turn and say: 'O people, the trial has afflicted the Ummah of Muhammad, peace be upon him, and especially his household. We have been wronged and oppressed.'" From Hudhayfah, he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "...When the Sudanese emerge, the Arabs will be eager. They will be scattered until they are annihilated in the belly of the earth - or he said: in the belly of the Jordan. While they are like that, Sufyani will emerge with three hundred and sixty riders until he reaches Damascus. Nothing good will come to him until thirty thousand people pledge allegiance to him. He will send an army to Iraq, and one hundred thousand will be killed at Zawra'. They will descend to Kufa and plunder it. At that time, a beast will emerge from the East, led by a man from the Banu Tamim called Shu'ayb ibn Salih. He will rescue the captives of the people of Kufa from their hands and kill them."
