Know, my beloved brother, that it is necessary to warn against the innovation of *Irja'* and extremism in *Takfir*. This must be done in accordance with Islamic law, so that you do not fall into the innovation of *Irja'*, by affirming Islam for those whom the clear and authentic texts indicate are disbelievers, and by stipulating conditions for declaring someone an apostate that are not found in the Book of Allah or the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace be upon him and his family. And so that you do not fall into extremism in *Takfir*, by declaring Muslims disbelievers without legal evidence, and without regard for the rulings on apostasy that are found in the Book and the Sunnah. The Sharia of Allah Almighty is a middle path between excess and negligence, and the methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah is the methodology of truth and justice. They do not declare someone a disbeliever except for one who has broken the foundation of religion, or denied what is known from religion by necessity, or for whom there is a clear and authentic text declaring them a disbeliever. They believe that disbelief can be by belief, or by speech, or by action. They do not limit disbelief to belief, nor do they stipulate that the act must be considered permissible for the doer to be declared a disbeliever (as the Murji'ah and many who attribute themselves to Salafism have said). Likewise, they do not declare someone a disbeliever for committing a sin or for ignorance of a legal ruling that is not part of the foundation of religion (as the Khawarij and extremists in *Takfir* have said).
