On Thursday morning, the 11th of Dhu al-Qi'dah, year 1300, September 13th, year 83, at 11:30 AM, His Excellency the Hakdar descended to the plain, and afterwards, we also descended at 12 PM. In honor of His Excellency's arrival at the inner fortifications, cannons were fired to announce his safe arrival, and the usual honors were rendered. Then, at 2:30 PM, preparations were underway for His Excellency's descent outside the fortifications. Tents were pitched for him there, and we proceeded to carry out our duties. A special barrier of thorns was also made to prevent passage, except via a specially constructed bridge. The camp remains at this aforementioned location.

At 10 AM, we sent an English reply to His Excellency Hicks Pasha in Bobawer, El Fasher, accompanied by Lieutenant Labdi, with a special escort of horses from His Excellency Effendi and another from His Excellency Major General Hussein Mesher Pasha to meet him on the road.

On Friday, at 3 AM, the reply from His Excellency Hicks Pasha arrived, indicating his imminent arrival near the Green Canal, in good health and safety, along with all the camp and officers. Only one hundred and fifty-seven camels perished, some of whom were already sick, and they did not experience any hardship on the road. He expressed his pleasure at being informed of the route that was approved for the army's passage to Kordofan and promised to arrive here on the coming Tuesday. (In El Niyum)

On Thursday morning, at 1 AM, September 20th, year 83, we received news from the scouts who were sent specifically to observe the army. They informed us of our departure. While we were preparing to go out to meet him, Colonel Farkhar, the Chief of Staff, coincidentally arrived and informed us that His Excellency General Hicks Pasha would arrive with the army.
