To the extent of your station, and to God be the praise in poetry. Al-Basit came to Sulaiman on the day of the presentation, a gift for you, with locusts in its mouth. And she said, speaking from her heart, "Indeed, the gift is according to the measure of its giver." If a person's worth were to be gifted to a person, then your worth would be the world and all that is in it. And from us, peace be upon you, and upon your children, and the people of your household, and those who sit with you. Al-Saeed said, "Take this book and read it to your uncle, Sayyid Ahmad." I went with it and read it to him, and brought the gift. He saw it and blessed it. Then he said, "If I accept it and give it to my son, this means me." So I was eager, I or Ughi. And I prepared myself for its acceptance. But he refused, saying, "Even if you spent all your wealth or fell ill, it would not be a recompense for what he did for me of kindness." So I was pleased with him then. And I asked him by God Almighty to tell me about this kindness that he had done for him. He said, "I know, my son, that my enemies and my rivals are with the Sultan in Fafabi' al-Ahra'i, and they adorned their words for him until his mind settled on the matter. So he became angry and said, 'May this poverty be more fitting for him.' So bring me a gift in a different form." And when I entered upon him, and he rebuked me with painful words, and I asked for the verification of what was said about me, I was unable to do so. Listen to the saying.
