Do you not know that the owner of the seal is the accepted one, and his word is the heard one? Do you wish to oppose him and complain to the Pasha, and have him hear your case against him? By what you have done, and how badly you have erred, save yourself and settle your affairs, lest what befits you of ruin befall you, and you are the one driven. Have you not heard the sayings of the wise: "And when providence favors a servant, Its judgments walk over his masters." Al-Haloumi said, "What is the solution and the way out of this matter?" He replied: "Know that wealth, if its owner does not spend it on such an important matter, is the same as his ruin. The stratagem is to prepare a noble gift and present it to Ibn Yidr, the owner of the seal, and to intercede with him through his beloved ones, such as Ibn Li, Al-Diyyaf, Al-Qasim the doorkeeper, and Saleh Abu Abdir. Be patient with them and offer them money that satisfies them and encourages them to intercede, for money is only sought for such important matters." Al-Haloumi accepted his advice with gratitude and prepared a great gift, including a horse whose value is immeasurable, a magnificent diamond ring, a dagger inlaid with rubies and sapphires, two jeweled watches, and ten thousand mahboubas. He also took a considerable amount of money besides this, and hurried until he met the owners of the seal. He informed them that he was begging them to intercede for him for forgiveness, and offered them what satisfied them.
