During those days, Muhammad Kara was appointed to the position of Sheikh al-Adab, which was the most esteemed position there. The holder of this position was sought after like a sultan, his rule like that of a sultan, and his fame like his minaret. This position was not entrusted to just anyone, because it was feared that if someone with a weak constitution took it, they might be pressured by the Sultan to confiscate property and claim the kingdom for themselves. After Sheikh Muhammad Kara was appointed Sheikh al-Adab, he turned his attention to the country. He showed the Sultan's justice and his love for scholars, virtuous people, and Ashraf. Ashraf and scholars from various regions came to him. The first to visit him was my father, upon whom God's mercy and pleasure be. When he arrived in Darfur, he stayed at Kuwayba with al-Faqih Hassan wad Amuda. So their elders gathered, such as al-Faqih Ahmad Karim, al-Sharif Surur bin Abi al-Joud, Abd al-Karim bin al-Faqih Hassan wad Amuda, and others like them. They asked him to read Mukhtasar al-Sheikh Khalil. He read to them the chapter on worship. News of him reached al-Faqih Malik, the mufti. He informed the Sultan, who sent for him. So he went to him, and he was honored.
