And the two gentlemen issued the following statement: Now that God has willed it, the great hope that the country has been striving for has been realized. So we met and united Seeking God's pleasure, we are pleased to announce our determination to stand together for what will bring good, happiness, freedom, and complete sovereignty to the esteemed Sudanese nation. As we are keen for the country to pass through this delicate stage with reassurance and peace towards its hoped-for great destiny, we call upon all citizens to forget their differences for the sake of serving their dear homeland and achieving its great aspirations, so that the necessary stability and reassurance may be achieved in this difficult time. We hope that this will create a suitable atmosphere for the cooperation of all our loved ones and supporters in righteousness, piety, and the common good. We also hope that all parties will meet immediately to establish a national government that will be the safeguard for all of this, and that it will be able to save the country from any expected danger. God is the helper, and in Him is good and right. ("") The Khatmiyya sect participated effectively in political life, and Mr. Ali Al-Mirghani, after [illegible] the British and cooperating with them with all sincerity and loyalty, contributed to the care of the movement of nationalists from the educated and graduates of Sudanese schools. These found in the person of Ali Al-Mirghani a refuge and support for their great call for unity with Egypt and linking the Sudanese national movement with the national liberation movement in Egypt. And although Mr. Ali was not fond of Egyptians at many times and did not wish for their return to power again, and he remained a supporter of the British policy towards Egypt, he later turned to supporting the national current calling for the unity of Sudan and Egypt under the Egyptian crown and became a strong believer in this direction.
