The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "I am the one who eradicates disbelief." This means that God, may He be exalted, sent him to abolish disbelief. It is said that the meaning of this is that he was sent to Mecca, Medina, and all the lands of the Arabs, and to all the land that God granted him and promised him that his kingdom would reach. As for the interpretation that it is general, meaning the appearance and dominance, as in His saying: "He it is who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it supreme over all religions." This has been explained in the Hadith as meaning that he will eradicate disbelief. As for those who believe in him and follow him, their sins will be forgiven, and he will be forgiven for his shortcomings. This is His saying: "Say: 'If you love Allah, then follow me, so Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.'" This is for the disbelievers, that they should cease, and what has passed will be forgiven. Disbelief was not eradicated by anyone like it was by the Prophet, peace be upon him. He was sent when all the earth was disbelieving, some of them worshipping idols, others worshipping fire, others worshipping the sun and moon, others worshipping time and fate, not knowing a Lord or a Creator, and philosophers who knew no good except what they saw, and did not believe in the resurrection or the afterlife, until his religion became dominant over all religions, and his message reached as far as the day and night. His call spread like the decree of fate. As for the eradicators of fate, he, peace be upon him, was the first to say: "O my Lord, I am the one who eradicates disbelief." And it is said that this is a praise of his great status and his closeness to God, may He be exalted. This is because the prophets, peace and blessings be upon them, were sent to eradicate disbelief from worldly existence. They did not fully succeed, but they fought until they dominated the entire religion. And our Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "I am the eradicating one, for I eradicate disbelief, and I am the gathering one, for people will be gathered to me." This is a permanent characteristic. The beginning of eradication was at the time of his mission, with the appearance of his noble self. He did not cease to be eradicated until he longed to meet his Lord, so he met Him, and his light was in his nation. And until his religion prevails. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "And the religion will prevail in the lands, even if it takes a long time." If the world had been sent before the prophets, disbelief would not have been eradicated by their hands, because prophecy and messengership would have been invalidated by his mission, as there would be nothing left for them to be sent for. He was delayed and then sent first to show his virtue and to make his name known. He said, in the language of state and speech: "Look at this eradicating one, whom I have sent as the last one in his time, to all of you. I have sent you in groups before, and you were sent in groups at one time to some people, and you did not achieve what I achieved. He alone eradicated disbelief to the farthest reaches. He stood alone before them, and then they increased, and he showed his strangeness and his uniqueness over all of them. This is a virtue that is not surpassed. The reason for people returning to disbelief at the end of time, so that there is no one left on earth to say 'There is no god but Allah,' is that God will take away the righteous from the earth, and the wind will take them away from under the Throne. The righteous will be taken from the earth to establish the Hour. It is said that this is the light that turned away from the world. The great Mecca, and its people, will be filled with disbelief. This is because the Hour will not come until no one on earth says 'There is no god but Allah.' Then no disbelief will remain, and everyone will believe. It will not benefit anyone his faith if he did not believe before. And the reason for the gathering of the people is that God knows best.
