Muhammad Abasa - 28 -Annals of Heritage Magazine to Hijra, the earliest poet known to Chad who traveled to Morocco during the era of the Caliph Yaqub al-Muwahhidi, where he was sent as an envoy from the King of Kanem, and praised him, so the Caliph was impressed. At the Caliph's palace, the poet met Ambassador Ibn Hamawayh, an envoy of the Mujahid Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi to the Almohad Sultan, and he recited poems of his poetry. The Kanemi was famous under the name of the Black Poet.

Some of the poems composed by this poet have reached us through Ibn Hamawayh and some Arab historians, due to his visit to the Maghreb and Andalusia and his association with men of letters. Meanwhile, nothing has reached us from his Chadian contemporaries at that time.

Their news was lost, and their poems were lost. Perhaps the colonizer played a role in destroying what remained of their works, by burning them or transferring them to French museums.

Then, a number of Chadian poets appeared after them, including: Sheikh Muhammad al-Wali bin Sulaiman al-Baqrami, Sheikh Muhammad al-Amin al-Kanemi, Sheikh Ahmad al-Habu, and Sheikh Yaqub Abu Kuwaisa in the Sultanate of Wadai, and Sheikh al-Taher bin al-Talbi, who has a collection of poetry, and Sheikh Abd al-Haqq al-Senussi, who was famous for praising the Prophet (PBUH), and others from poets who worked to spread Arabic poetry in Chad and foster communication between African and Arab cultures.

Among the Chadian men of letters also is Sheikh Muhammad al-Amin al-Kanemi (d. 1835 CE), who had letters and poems exchanged with Sheikh Uthman dan Fodio and his son Muhammad Bello. He used literature as a means of African dialogue and communication. As for the poets Abbas Muhammad Abd al-Wahid, Issa Abdullah, and Muhammad Omar al-Fahl, they dedicated their poetry to calling the Chadian people to resist colonialism.

Chadian jurists, men of letters, and poets have contributed to enriching Arab-Islamic heritage since the sixth Hijri century, including: Sheikh Abd al-Haqq bin Yaqub al-Chad, author of the book "Tabsirat al-Hairan min Hawl Fitn al-Zaman" in the field of jurisprudence, and others.
