The path of truth, even if my conscience allows me to judge favorably some matters of this country and its customs according to the circumstances. It is known that I do not approve of anything that contradicts the text of the Muhammadan Sharia, upon its owner be the best prayers and the noblest greetings. This journey is not limited to mentioning the travel and its events only, but it also includes its fruit and purpose. It involves the completion of the sciences and crafts sought, and speaking about them in the manner of documenting their origins and their customs, and their establishment. Therefore, in most cases, things that are subject to consideration or disagreement arise, indicating that my intention is merely to narrate them. I have named this journey "Takhlees al-Abreez fi Talkhees Paris" or "Al-Diwan al-Nafis" or "Diwan Paris". I have arranged it with an introduction containing several chapters, and a purpose containing several articles, and each article contains several sections, or books containing sections, and a conclusion. Refer to the index at the beginning of the book. In composing this book, I have attempted to follow the path of conciseness and ease of expression, so that all people can access its life and visit its gardens, even if its size is small and its content is brief. It is filled with countless unique benefits and innumerable noble merits. Poetry: And if it begins, they will appreciate its size, and your lives will have much good in it. I ask God Almighty to make this book acceptable to the master of happiness and the bestower of favors, the mine of virtue and generosity, and to awaken all nations from the slumber of heedlessness. He is the Hearer, the Answerer. And its seeker will not be disappointed.
