When God, Glorified and Exalted is He, bestowed upon the champion of knowledge at Al-Azhar Mosque, And its radiant garments, Which is a proof for the nearby fruits, And a garden of fragrant flowers. As our master, the learned Al-Attar, said: "If you desire virtues, adhere to the mosque, Illuminated by the lights of various sciences." "In it are the gardens of knowledge, their flowers sought, For this meaning, they are called Al-Azhar." And some said, and they spoke well, referring to the scholars of the Two Holy Cities: "Whoever stays away from the radiance of knowledge, Is far from the abode of knowledge and scholars." He himself is unjust, coveting, and others, Are unjust in their offerings, which do not yield water. And portions that do not please the opener, from what a person emerges from darkness, And by which he transcends the rank of the common people. And I was among a group upon whom days had been harsh, after They had poured their rain upon their lands, And the years had pointed to their share, after They had erected the banners of their comfort in their dwelling places. And it is established in the intellect, in ancient times and modern, And upon it is the consensus after the Book and the Hadith, that the best of Matters is knowledge, and that it is the most important of all important things, And that its glory in this world and the hereafter Returns to its owner, and that its virtue is witnessed in every time and place.
