The Errors of the Umma Party We wanted the Umma Party to be a movement that emanated from the conscience of the people, and for the revolution of Imam Al-Mahdi, his personality, and the heroism of his supporters to be the historical asset and national heritage from which the party draws its vitality, pride, and source of inspiration. I do not call for dwelling on the past and being content with that, but rather I also call for looking and aspiring to the future and working hard for it. A political party that does not consider the future and keep pace with progress will find itself one day in a world that does not respond to it.

The Umma Party was not free from errors. Among its prominent errors was that, in some circumstances, it went too far in appeasing the government, and the youth of the party became weary of this policy of appeasement. My task was to maintain a balance between the youth and the leaders, some of whom held sensitive positions in the government apparatus. I supported the youth in 1948 when they demanded the removal of some leaders from the Umma Party's administrative council and the inclusion of some young men.
