He went to his house and paid one hundred mithqal of gold, and he brought it to the archers in the procession, saying: "Here is one hundred mithqal. If not, let each one pay the same from his share for the treasury." Then they let him go and left him. As for the archers, they did not let him go in that matter, and they left Al-Hajj Mas'ud and swore by the released ones that they would not give us one thousand one hundred mithqal. So they wrote it for them, and they took them and imprisoned them until they gave us one thousand one hundred mithqal. They prolonged it for them unwillingly, and then they released them as you heard. And Allah Almighty knows best. As for the authentic news, it is completely absent in our time, and there is no one whose hadith can be trusted in this time, to the point that it has become widespread and printed in the land of Timbuktu. If it were written and true, they would write false hadith in the traditions. We ask Allah Almighty for safety. No one is confirmed by the name of the one who was just, whether he was heard or seen, so that they would act upon gossip and rumors. Rather, some of them add to what they heard of gossip, and Allah has tested all of them with this in this time. Even if he were a saint, he would inevitably speak among people of gossip when he speaks, or remain silent. On Monday, the twenty-second of Rabi' al-Awwal of that year, meaning the year one thousand one hundred and forty-nine, people went out for rain. This was twenty-six days after the permission of the honorable judge. Then it rained on Wednesday night, the last night of it, with heavy rain. And at that hour, from these two mujahideen, the great battle and the greatest calamity occurred among the Arabs. In it, Allah destroyed their best, young and old, because they left the land of Tora and killed their enemy there, and they were defeated and scattered. They arrived in Timbuktu, then they went to Ar-Ra'un. After their connection from there to here and from here to Ar-Ra'un, they heard news of them that they had reached Ar-Ra'un.
