In the month of Safar, the sixteenth of that mentioned year, the incident occurred between Ghāl Balbūn and the Awlād Maghshirgi at the water source. Many people from various tribes died between them, and the army of Maghshirgi was defeated. The cavalry of Ghāl Balbūn pursued them and annihilated them completely. The fifth time they appointed him to succeed him, and no one succeeded him except himself, on Friday the third of Safar al-Khayr in the year one hundred and thirty-five. He remained for about four months and did not take action. Then he was dismissed on Friday the thirteenth of Jumādā al-Ūlā in the middle of that mentioned year. On Friday the second of the illuminated month of Sha‘bān, the leader Mansūr arrived in the town of Timbuktu. He descended from the west, accompanied by a group of men and Tuareg. The dignitaries of the town came out to him after Friday prayer, such as the judge Sayyid Ahmad and others of his elite, to greet him. They met him there and greeted him and returned. After the afternoon prayer, the leader Bāhād prepared himself and went out to him with his archers, and they killed him along with them. He was also with his archers, and they buried him in the forest. Then they pursued them until they entered the town, fleeing and retreating. They said, "Sa‘īd bin Muhammad Fazzān, poison was deliberately administered that evening." Then the leader Mansūr entered the town by force and settled in the house of Hajj ‘Abd Allāh bin ‘Alī bin Tālib Ibrāhīm, in the neighborhood of al-Kāhī Hadd bin Ham, by the market gate. The fire of sedition was ignited between him [37] and the leader Bāhād for eight months. The leader ‘Abd al-Faghār bin ‘Alī was the cause of this sedition and its occurrence, because the leader Bāhād had dismissed him. Therefore, he sent for the leader Mansūr to come with an army, and he came. He remained in the town for about three months, then he went to the village of Tunnūr to cut off the road, and he was followed.
