His army marched out against him, and his soldiers, the Arabs of Rida, were unwilling. He was besieged in Tunis. He sailed by sea, not knowing the situation in Algiers, and another man took his place. When the news of this reached Muhammad Bey, he sent one of his ships. He saw a strong force moving towards him. He was greatly saddened. He was concerned about the sea and capturing him. He brought him to him, and Muhammad Bey was pleased with him and honored him greatly. He gave him money and clothes, and sent him by sea to Istanbul. He was safe and sound. Salim bin Ibrahim, the governor of Tunis, was buried. The news of the victory reached Muhammad Bey. He was greatly pleased. He sent a message to the Pasha of Tunis, who was in Jumada al-Akhir, and consulted with him. He was praised for his good qualities and generosity. This happened on the 14th of Dhu al-Hijjah, in the year 1044. In the same year, Ibrahim Khoja, the ruler of Algiers, returned from the sea. He helped him fight against Muhammad Shalbīl. He was defeated and fled. He was greatly honored and treated with great respect. He was given gifts and sent by sea to his conquest. Yazil Abu Shukrum, who was in Algiers, married into a noble family. The preparations for the campaign to Tunis were completed. Muhammad Bey was informed and sought their support. Shaban Khoja, the ruler of Algiers, was sent with a large army. He was joined by his governor and scribe, Abu Shukrum, the ruler of Tripoli. They agreed to support him against Muhammad Bey. The fleet sailed with the army. They landed in Algiers and marched towards Muhammad Bey. When he heard the news, he gathered his forces and marched out to meet them with seven banners. The two armies met on the 14th of Dhu al-Hijjah. The battle began. Muhammad Bey's cavalry defeated the Algerians. They fled to their territory and were expelled from it.
