Until they reach Yahya, and that was on the twenty-seventh of Jumada al-Ula. And between the defeat of Tajir and the conquest of Mahdia, seventy-four days. And Janib ibn al-Ghazi went out to Mahdia with a retinue from his entourage, and pitched his tent at Qasr Firadh, and stayed that night. Then he submitted himself to the state, obeying the present. And he said to the weak, after he wrote to himself approving of that from him, the victor summoned him, treated him well, and agreed to that. The arrival of the kingdom of the victor, Al-Haj, his companion, a diwan with his year in the great Mahdia, which I collected during the period of a long time. And in it were two robes woven with various jewels, and banners of precious stones and precious stones were made in it. And by order of the victor, all the gifts were carried to Ali ibn al-Ghazi. So he died, some of them from grief and envy. Then the victor occupied Mahdia on the twentieth of Jumada al-Akhirah in the year six hundred and two. And he wanted to move to the land of the Maghreb, striving to build it. He spoke with his elders and his advisors, and he was hesitant to leave his army. So he gathered their opinions on Sheikh Abu Muhammad ibn Ja'ja'. And no two disagreed, and it was as if they saw in that the future of the caliphate. By order of the victor, some of his servants spoke with them about that, and I did not hear any objection. And the victor opposed that with the bounty of Baz, and he excused himself by the distance of the journey from those who were wronged in Marrakech, from his family, and from what that entailed of opposing the Caliph and being far from him. And the victor looked for a replacement for him, and he did not realize his intention to stay, and the matter of the east of the country was great for him, and its people were far from him. From the Filam, a slave was sent to him, his son, and with the son of Sheikh Abu Muhammad ibn Ibnift Al-Mansoura, who is known as Al-Tasbid in the lineage. And the victor, his uncle, had raised him with his son, Yusef Al-Muntassir, his heir apparent, and he was as dear to him as his son. He strove with his son in the ways of the two countries, so that they would enter upon him. The position of Sheikh Abu Muhammad with the son of the victor, and he sat with them and said, "O seeker, if I had anything other than your bounty, I would have given it to you." And the two answered him, honoring him, so his interest became his interest. He said, "Yes, it is sufficient." And the young man said, "We are the masters of the people. We pray for peace and say, 'This country from the beginning of this noble matter is with these infidels, a great matter, and under a great night, and a great fear.'"
