The riddle of 'Izz al-Musa and he offered to send them five men to study the matter so that they would fight with them on the condition that they send them hostages and thank them. If they were to seek help from the Muslims, they would not seek help from anyone other than Muslims. They marched with a large army. 'Abd al-Musa had already departed from Bijaya to the Maghreb. When the news reached him, he prepared an army of Almohads numbering over a thousand. He appointed Abdullah bin 'Umar al-Hintana and Sa'd Allah bin Yahya over them. The Arabs were weak, and the Almohads defeated them. The Arabs followed them until they reached the land of Sataibi between the mountains of Hamel. 'Abd al-Musa's army attacked the Arab encampments unexpectedly. The two armies clashed, and the fighting intensified. The battle ended with the defeat of the Arabs and the victory of the Almohads. The Arabs killed all their possessions and furniture, and the Almohads took all of it. The army returned to 'Abd al-Musa with all of it, and he distributed all the wealth among his soldiers. The women and children were placed under the protection of Allah, and servants were assigned to them, including Muhammad, to take care of them and serve them. They arrived with him in Marrakesh, where the Almoravids settled. He ordered Muhammad to write to the Arab emirs and inform them that their women and children were under his protection and care, and ordered them to come to him to ransom them. He offered them safety and security. When Muhammad's letter reached the Arabs, they marched to Marrakesh. Upon their arrival, 'Abd al-Musa gave them their women and children and treated them well. He gave them considerable wealth to appease them. They stayed with him, and he appointed his son Muhammad as his successor. Muhammad wrote to the emirs of the Arabs in the year fifty-one and five hundred. 'Abd al-Musa had a great plan. The matter between 'Abd al-Musa and 'Umar al-Hintana was that 'Umar would succeed him. When 'Abd al-Musa consolidated his power in Marrakesh and his children increased, he wanted the kingdom to pass to one of them. He summoned the emirs of the Arabs, including Hilal, Zu'ayb, and 'Udayy, and others. He treated them well and gave them gifts. He asked them what they wanted. 'Abd al-Musa said, "We want to appoint a successor from your children." The people changed their minds and agreed to that. Then they gathered to 'Umar al-Hintana, due to his high status among the Almohads. He told them that the matter was not for 'Umar. When 'Umar learned of this, he feared for his life and went to 'Abd al-Musa. He agreed to abdicate in favor of Muhammad as successor. He wrote to all his lands about this, and they all pledged allegiance to him. 'Abd al-Musa departed with a large army. In this year, 'Abd al-Musa appointed his sons over the country. This was a great matter, as he had appointed the famous sheikhs of the Almohads, the companions of the Mahdi, in Tawsart. He used to dismiss them by taking their children and leaving them with him, so that they would engage in studies. When they showed proficiency, they became role models. He said to their fathers, "I want you to be with me so that I can rely on you in what I am planning, and your sons will be in charge of affairs because they are superior in intellect." They agreed to this, and they were pleased.
