He deserved sovereignty and trust, I made him a reed in his place, the eloquent of his time, a pearl in his era, a guide for the seekers, an example for the guided, and a refuge for the poor and needy. He was the manifestation of the sun of knowledge after its setting. I permitted him in all that he truly conveyed and entrusted to him. I also permitted him to reveal and publicize what was in it and to transmit to us the knowledge within it. Let him beware, with all caution, of inner ruin. This was in the year eighty-two and nine hundred after the Hijra of the Prophet. This was written by the humble Ibn Jabir al-Juhani, of Arab lineage. It has reached me that his lineage is confirmed from the descendants of Aqil ibn Abu Bakr. He is the one who guided Sheikh Hassan ibn Hassuna, revealed the veil to him, showed him the way, and his success. This happened when Sheikh Hassan came seeking the path. He said, "O humble one, fill this water skin from the sea." When he reached the sea, he placed it to fill it. He preceded him and filled it with water and brought it to him. He found him a young man, after he had been an old man. He took the water skin, performed ablution, and said "Allahu Akbar." His head joined the ceiling of the khalwa, and he returned as an old man to his former state. I said to myself, "This is my Sheikh." He turned to me and said, "I am not your Sheikh. Return, and I will enter you into a khalwa in Ba'wada, where your Sheikh will come to you, and you will have a great destiny." He remained with his descendants for ten years. When anyone from his descendants entered, the Sheikh would embrace him and say, "And their father was righteous," and he would associate with them and fulfill their needs. Abu Surur al-Fadli was born in al-Haljaniya, and his mother was Kamnah bint al-Hajj Ali al-Fadila. He read Khalil with Sheikh al-Zein and the creeds with al-Faqih Ali ibn Dibra. He taught the creeds in his khalwas near al-Haljaniya, on the path of hunting. Then he moved to Darfur, taught there, and gained great favor with the Sultanate. He was a companion of al-Faqih Abu Zeid. Then he moved to Dar Suluh with Uruq, who honored him greatly. He taught there and died there. The cause of his death was being killed by a sorcerer who split his head open while he was sleeping with stones. Abu Zeid, son of Sheikh Abdul Qadir, was a righteous and pious scholar. He studied jurisprudence with Sheikh al-Zein and read grammar and creeds with al-Khatib Ammar. Then he moved to Darfur after taking women from those who consumed the wealth of Sheikh Idris. He settled in Kawsawi and built a mosque there for the teacher. Allah granted him complete favor and acceptance from the Sultanate and all the people of the land. Then he moved to Dar Burqu with Sultan Ya'qub, who greatly honored him. Then a dispute occurred between them, and he returned to Darfur, where he died.
