Dafallah bin Muhammad al-Kamil al-Mandil, and his mother Rayya bint Musa, son of Hununa, was born in al-Halfaya. His mother named him Dafallah al-Arki because he was the sheikh of his family. She used to play with him when he was young and say to him, "O Zahwi, O Sheikh of my father." His father and mother died, and his grandfather Musa bin Hununa took care of him. He memorized the Quran with al-Faqih Hamad bin Haydan and the rulings of the Quran with al-Faqih Abd al-Raziq bin al-Tum al-Mawdi'i in al-Hawir. He read Mukhtasar Khalil with al-Faqih Muhammad al-Azraqi, son of the Sheikh. He went into Sufism with Sheikh Badawi, son of Abu Dalig. Then he sat in the mosque of al-Halfaya to teach the Quran shortly after his sheikh. Many people benefited from him, despite his short lifespan of ten years, during which a large number of students and local children memorized the Quran with him. May God have mercy on him, he was of good character, pious, God-fearing, generous, and hospitable to those who visited him. He spent on the students of the Quran. He was also characterized by forbearance and humility. His forbearance was such that he never struck any of his Quran students, nor did he scold them harshly. Rather, he would order and admonish them with gentleness and soft speech. Sheikh ibn Umm Maryam said, "Whoever wishes to look at a man from the people of Paradise, let him look at Dafallah, son of Rayya." Sheikh ibn al-Tizani said to the people of al-Halfaya, "The people of Paradise, the radiant ones, are the people of Dafallah." He meant by this. Al-Faqih Nabri said, "I was with al-Faqih Abd al-Rahman, son of Haj al-Alim, famous in Dar al-Sha'iqiyya. He asked me, 'Where are your people?' I said, 'In al-Halfaya.' He said, 'Al-Halfaya of Dafallah?' I said, 'And I am his student.' He said to me, 'I bear witness that you are happy.' When his death approached, a man from the Darawish, known for his piety, said, 'May God relieve him from this world, for it is not suitable for him, and nothing in it is for him.' Then came the time of his death. He fell seriously ill and repented for days, then he recovered. People were visiting him, men and women, waiting for his recovery. When he recovered, he was asked, 'What did you see?' He said, 'My soul was taken up to heaven, and I was told, "It is better for you to return to the world, and remain in it for forty years teaching the Quran and knowledge, or to meet your Lord." ' His son Abd al-Jalil and Haj Awad al-Karim asked him, 'What did you choose?' He said, 'I chose to meet my Lord.' The people cried out in weeping and wailing. He said to his maternal aunts, sisters, and all his relatives, 'Rejoice, O Honayna, O your generation on the Day of Resurrection.' My sheikh, Badawi, son of Abu Dalig, said, 'Rejoice, O Kamaliyat, I am your generation on the Day of Resurrection.' He made a will, saying, 'Abd al-Dafi' Jamaaza will sit in the mosque of our sheikh, al-Faki Hamad Tarfi, may God have mercy on him, for twenty-one years after one thousand two hundred, and he was forty years old and some years, six or three.
