He gained their favor at first with a shameful abundance, so he appeased them and said to them: "War is a back-and-forth, and the Messenger of God used to win and lose, and the ultimate outcome is for the righteous." Then they attacked again and were victorious. Among his tricks was that he interrogated a man from the people of the mountain, and asked him: "Tell us, are we happy or wretched?" He replied to him: "As for you, you are the Mahdi, who upholds the command of God. Whoever follows you will be happy, and whoever opposes you will perish." Then he presented his companions to this man and asked him to distinguish between the people of Paradise and the people of Hell. He had agreed with him to make his enemies people of Hell, so that he could get rid of them. In any case, this Mahdi died before he was victorious, and was succeeded by Abd al-Mu'min, who was luckier than his sheikh. He conquered many of the lands of the Maghreb and Andalusia. The result of this was the famous Almohad state in the history of Andalusia. This was a great kingdom, a blessing from the awaited Mahdi, encompassing the entire Maghreb up to the borders of Egypt and Andalusia.
