Ibn al-Sanusi stayed in Tripoli for four months, two months before the arrival of the Ikhwan. During that period, he was diligent in his preaching and succeeded in attracting a number of people from Gabes and two months later. He established that the Darqawiyya order was widespread in North Africa and its members represented asceticism and attraction. Clashes occurred between the followers of Ibn al-Sanusi and the Darqawis. Ahmad al-Sharif mentions that Ahmad bin Faraj Allah Hamu, son of Ibn al-Sanusi, met him during that period and took the Muhammadiyya order from him, and he was a Darqawi. He complained to him about the weakness of the Khalif, so the master ordered him to join his family in the Green Mountain. It is noted that a considerable number followed Ibn al-Sanusi during that period, including men from the Hijaz, the Maghreb, Egypt, and Sudan. This number formed the vanguard of the movement and carried out Ibn al-Sanusi's plan to establish Zawiyas and spread the call. Ibn al-Sanusi then set out for the eastern region, and the Ikhwan preceded him with their families and children to Benghazi. It appears that he gave them the order to precede him to the place and begin establishing a Zawiya there. This means he chose the location of the Zawiya while coming from the East. When they arrived in Benghazi, people from the Awagir (a tribe there) called the children of Al-Kazza took them to the homeland of the Barasa (another tribe in Cyrenaica), and the Barasa transported them to the White Zawiya and began establishing it before the arrival of the master. The master then went out to Sirte, heading towards Bani Ghazi. He and his companion met thirty horsemen and forty men heading to Tripoli at sunrise.
