Remarks.

There are an unknown number of Anuak in Abyssinia.

The Committee are agreed that Shilluk should be the Group language for all the above tribes in the Sudan, with the exception of the one Acholi group in the Mongalla Province, who should draw their literature from the Acholi of Uganda to whom they more properly belong and whose literature is already used among the Lango.

PART RELL Orthography.

The Committee discussed the representation of sounds as set forth in the Memorandum I of the International Institute of African Languages and Cultures, and arrived at the following conclusions :— (The numbering below refers to the Sections in. the Memorandum.) (1) The language should be written on a Romanic basis.

(2) (i) b, d, h, k, 1, m, n, p, t, w, shall have their English values. The inter-dental d and ¢ shall be represented by dh and th.

(i) g shall have its hard value.
