The Sub-Committee discussed the question of the applicability of the Orthography to Dinka.

As regards the th, dh, nh, Father Olivetti would adopt these, but Archdeacon Shaw would prefer to retain ¢, d, n.

As regards y or q, the Sub-Committee prefer g for convenience, but realize the difficulty if there is to be Arabic teaching in schools. This would involve the use of the usual Arabic orthography in which q is used for an entirely different sound. The only alternative there- fore would be the y.

Recommend the use of ny for 7. Recommend the use of y for 7. As regards vowels 6 does not seem to be wanted. The Committee think that no special vowel signs are required for the natives, but a system would be required for EHuropeans learning the language.

The system of writing long vowels with two letters is accepted. The Dinka alphabet will therefore include the following :—
