It had another destiny in the Maghreb. As for the support of the aforementioned scholars, their role was no longer in the general educational and cultural sphere, but was limited to influential doctrinal rooting.
The doctrine of the Mahdi found supporters among the poets. However, these poets, more than others, mixed their genuine convictions with what they fabricated for gain and to appease the princes, making it difficult to distinguish between those who were sincere in their beliefs and those who were false.
And among what was said by one of the poets of Algeria who visited Prince Abu Yaqub Yusuf while he was in Tinmel: Peace be upon the grave of the revered Imam. Glad tidings came to us that he would fill the world, And conquer lands east and west. So, his description: he is the one who has acquired and clarified, and he is The place, the time, and the name.
And what one of the poets said: Peace be upon the Mahdi, his judgment Is from God, the most exalted, A descendant of the best of creation, Muhammad. And in the name of his father and guided judgment, And the manifestation of the secrets of the guided Book, With equity and justice among mankind, eternal. And he will rule Arabs from the East and the West. His signs are five, clear for guidance: And his action is protection and his return is interpretation. And his command is confirmed, inevitable, While the earth is darkened by injustice. And God, and the Prophet, and his family. And in his saying: And a group from you I guided, and I am (See: Ibn Sahib al-Salat, Al-Mun bi al-Imamah: 13-412) (See: Al-Marrakushi, Al-Mu'jib: 257) And his followers. And he mentioned the Mahdi with the Almohads.
