This is a general statement that encompasses disbelief in everything worshipped besides Allah, whether the worshipped is righteous or wicked. As for Jesus, peace be upon him, he was worshipped besides Allah. Allah the Almighty said: "And [mention] when Allah said, 'O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah'?' He said, 'Exalted are you! It was not for me to say that which is not right for me. If I had said it, you would have known it. I knew what was in myself, and I did not know what is in You. Indeed, it is You who is the Knower of the unseen.'" [Surah Al-Ma'idah: 116]. This verse proves that Jesus, peace be upon him, was worshipped besides Allah, and divinity was attributed to him. So how can we disbelieve in the divinity of Jesus, peace be upon him, as stated in the hadith: "(and disbelieve in what is worshipped besides Allah)"? And you say that disbelief in something is not achieved except by declaring it disbelief? Either you disbelieve in the divinity of Jesus, peace be upon him, and it necessitates that you declare him an infidel, may Allah protect us, because disbelief in something is not achieved without declaring it disbelief, and then you would have disbelieved. Or you do not disbelieve in the divinity of Jesus, peace be upon him, so that you do not fall into declaring him an infidel, and then you would have disbelieved as well, because if you do not disbelieve in his divinity, it means you have affirmed it, and affirming disbelief is disbelief. Or you retract your false doctrine and say that the meaning of "(disbelieve in what is worshipped besides Allah)" is that one avoids worshipping them, dissociates from them, and detests them, and it does not mean that the one who does so becomes an infidel. With the note that we have not said that Jesus, peace be upon him, is a Taghut (may Allah protect us), because Taghut is everything worshipped besides Allah and is pleased with that. As for Jesus, peace be upon him, although he was worshipped besides Allah, he was not pleased with it.
