He was a learned man. Islamism. He was born in the late 11th century. He undertook a journey to Masina, or Masina, as it is called in Tarikh al-Sudan. He was a Fulani, and he was on the banks of the Niger, more than a day's journey away. He was on his way to visit the kingdom. He was received by the Sultan himself and by the dignitaries of the kingdom, who urged him to return to visit the kingdom after three years. On this occasion, he presented a gift to the Sultan. The Sultan, his father, and his grandfather had a long-standing relationship with the Fulani, and their religion was an ancient one. He often acted as a mediator between the princes of the region, establishing strong relationships with a number of the region's rulers. He was also a keen observer of the political affairs of his country. His ability to observe and record political events increased. His personality, his upbringing, the environment in which he was educated, and the scholars and imams under whom he studied helped him to record the life of the enlightened elite and their role in the history of Sudan. Al-Sadi and his family suffered greatly from the tyranny of the rulers of Jenne. One of his brothers was exiled from his new home to Timbuktu in the year 1010 AH. Al-Sadi was forced to return to Timbuktu to intervene on behalf of his brother. Al-Sadi himself was dismissed from his post six years later. He complained to the Pasha of Timbuktu. This Pasha was aware of Al-Sadi's status, and out of concern for his satisfaction, he dismissed the commander who had caused his dismissal. He then refrained from seeking the position and preferred to live a life of obscurity among the common people. From time to time, Al-Sadi also placed his knowledge at the disposal of the scholars of Timbuktu. The southern Masina kingdom was a center of learning and scholarship. This happened in the year 1015 AH and thereafter. (See the thirty-second chapter of Tarikh al-Sudan (S)). (Title: This chapter in the French translation is titled "The Author's Journey to Masina to Conclude a Peace Treaty"). 1016 AH.
