He was of greater standing than the chief of Kōh Fāghī, and served him, to the extent that the Sultan would call no one else by the name of Mahsada in the presence of the people. He was brought before the Sultan, who said, "Muhammad Karkhāsh has an excuse, and he wants to meet with so-and-so, the concubine, every night, and she brings him food." The Sultan became angry at this and intended to punish him. The news reached al-Zakarā, so he served him and secluded himself in a room, and with his own hand, he castrated himself. The Sultan came to him and was close to him, and threw it before him, saying, "As for what was said about my companion, this is for him. And behold, I have castrated myself so that no doubt remains in my lord's heart about me." Then he fell unconscious. The Sultan was pleased and ordered that he be treated with justice and kindness until he recovered. Then the Sultan ordered that al-Amīn al-Dhukūr be appointed as one of the great viziers, and he placed him in charge of him, saying to him, "Take this boy under your care, look after him, and honor him. Beware of neglecting him, for I hope he will succeed you in your position." Al-Amīn took him with great care and placed him. And it was with the Sultan. We have previously mentioned that Aras and Sumaynd Qalāh were the custodians of important affairs, whom the master would send on missions. The council of Karā was in that حرمة (sanctuary/harem), and he would not be absent from his master's door, and whenever the Amin called someone from the people.
