We then proceeded to our overjoyed and delighted parents. He rejoiced in us and our stay. We all spent the month of Ramadan together. When it ended, he went to El Obeid to pay his respects. He met Sheikh Mohammed Kara and asked his permission to travel to Tunis to see his mother and two brothers and to meet them before his mother's death. He informed him that he would be staying in his house and country because the land where he was granted a fief by the late Sultan Abd al-Rahman was now his. He had been granted land in a place called Kuri Kay, and because the inhabitants of that place were not fluent in Arabic and did not know the language, he moved them to this land. This fief included three villages. He and our father had disagreements over it, and he was not compensated. So, he agreed with Sheikh Mohammed Kara to leave him the entire revenue of these lands and to benefit from their cultivation. He took livestock in exchange and was granted permission. He wrote several orders to the officials along his route, instructing them to provide him with all he needed and to send soldiers with him. They escorted him to a safe place, bid him farewell, and returned to us, concerned about the journey. He prepared himself as quickly as possible, as he sold his cotton, of which he had a large quantity, exceeding one hundred qintars, because he had cultivated a piece of land exceeding twenty feddans of land. This piece of land was where he collected at the time.
