Those who migrated to the city desiring his closeness and submitted to him with much submission. And after the poor man turned to the mercy of his Lord, the artist Muhammad bin Al-Saeed Omar Al-Tunisi bin Sulaiman, when God Almighty granted him to read Arabic sciences and his cup was filled with literary arts from them, I counted myself among the builders of literature and its people. And I accompanied him, and time weighed heavily upon what I had in hand, so I returned after a distant gaze. And my ambition at that time was known for acquiring knowledge and collecting prose and poetry from it. And when I witnessed the opposition of time, I found no recourse, so I adopted the saying of the scholar Al-Safi: "From the people, I descended to the earth, the minarets are for them, and I ascended in knowledge like their names." And I taught others in the sciences, and indeed, between the fields and all women are built. So I was amazed when the colors of the ignorant and the close ones became the turbans of the jurists. And the palm became yellow, and the measurement became terrified, and wealth declined, and the situation changed. And the source dried up, and the square became barren. I recited from my discourse about my situation in poetry: "And what is my recourse, and this time is full of troubles, it harms the two evils and the situation preserves. A time that wages war on the pure, like the war of Al-Basus. So you see it raising every ignorant person, and forgetting every refined person and humiliating him."
