They cultivate a grain called *dubay* which is grown by the *Faw* tribes in the mountains and elsewhere. It is a grain similar to *dhukhn*, but lighter in color, tending towards white. Its ear is thicker than that of *dhukhn*. They sow it about twenty days before *dhukhn*. It is a small and easily cultivated grain, strong and with a yellow color like yellow *dhukhn*. As for the types of millet, they only cultivate the white variety. Even when it is available, they do not consume it in large quantities. They plant a little *abu abāt* for its taste, eating it roasted or grinding it into flour. As for *al-'azīz*, it is a substitute for them, and only the poor eat it when necessary. In the marshes and pools, they grow rice. They collect what they can during the spring and mix it with milk, or with the flour of *dhukhn*. They have another type of grain, similar to rice but not rice, called *ad-durqa*. It is a small grain, smaller than rice, and it is very white. They prefer it to rice. They also cultivate sesame, which is abundant. However, they do not benefit from it by making oil. They eat it as a grain, and they cook it in their food. Honey is also abundant among them, but they do not benefit from it by making vinegar. They take the honey and discard the honeycomb, even though they are in great need of both honey and sesame oil.
