The Khatmiyya has many literary works authored by their sheikhs from the family of Al-Maraghna. Sayyid Muhammad Uthman (Al-Khatm) authored many works that explain the origins of the Tariqa and clarify the methods of worship and remembrance among the Khatmiyya.

In its ancient origins, the Khatmiyya has no intellectual connection to Shi'ism. The trend that linked the beliefs and general principles of the Khatmiyya with the tenets of the Shi'a only appeared recently and in modern times.
