Chapter Two The Noble Origins of the Khatmiyya Tariqa and its Most Important Teachings The Khatmiyya Tariqa is a Sufi order whose origins are deeply rooted in Sufism. The writings of the Khatmiyya are rich with Sufi ideas and beliefs. Muhammad Uthman al-Mirghani (al-Khatm) has many compositions, a part of which was mentioned by Ahmad bin Idris al-Ribatabi, the author of Al-Abana. Sayyid Muhammad Uthman authored a book on exegesis titled (Taj al-Tafasir li Kalam al-Kabir) [The Crown of Exegeses for the Words of the Great One]. He also wrote (Rahmat al-Ahad fi Iqtifa Athar al-Rasul al-Samad) [The Mercy of the One in Following the Footsteps of the Everlasting Messenger], (Al-Waz al-Thamin fi Ta'mir A'sar Ramadan al-Thalathin) [The Precious Sermon in Reviving the Thirty Ramadans], (Fath al-Rasul wa Miftah Babih lil-Dukhul liman Arada Ilayh al-Wusul) [The Opening of the Messenger and the Key to His Door for Those Who Wish to Reach Him], (Majmu' al-Awrad al-Kabir) [The Great Collection of Liturgical Prayers], (Al-Nafahat al-Madaniyya fi al-Mada'ih al-Mustafawiyya) [The Medinan Breaths in Praises of the Chosen One], and other works.

Taj al-Tafasir is considered one of Sayyid Muhammad Uthman's most important works. It is an exegesis in two large volumes. The first volume begins with Surat Al-Fatiha and ends with Surat Al-Kahf, and the second begins with Surat Maryam and ends with...

In his exegesis, al-Mirghani adopted a mystical, esoteric approach to the Quranic verses. He relied on divine inspiration rather than quoting from the books of exegetes. This methodology was attributed to prophetic visions, and his book (Rahmat al-Ahad fi Iqtifa Athar al-Rasul al-Samad) was a result of a prophetic presence.

Among Muhammad Uthman al-Mirghani's most important works is the book Al-Nafahat al-Makkiyya wa al-Lamahat al-Haqqa fi Sharh Asas al-Tariqa al-Khatmiyya [The Meccan Breaths and the True Glimpses in Explaining the Foundation of the Khatmiyya Tariqa]. This is a valuable book from a historical perspective, comprising two hundred and thirty-eight pages of medium size. It contains a comprehensive explanation of the fundamental teachings of the Khatmiyya Tariqa.

Sayyid Muhammad Uthman also authored a Mawlid (celebration of the Prophet's birthday) called Asrar al-Rayhaniyya. It is also known as the Mawlid al-Uthmani, named after its author, Sayyid Muhammad Uthman. It consists of fourteen chapters that include a detailed account of the biography of the Prophet, peace be upon him. Muhammad Uthman al-Mirghani explained that he wrote this Mawlid in response to a dream in which the Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded him to compose a Mawlid, one of whose rhymes would be "ha" and the other "tun."
