The name given to the temple of Sulb in the hieroglyphic texts is Het-kha-em-Maat, spJ,' i.e., "the house diademed with Truth," and was dedicated to Amen-Ra, Khnemu, and Amen-hetep III. Of the reliefs with which it was decorated we can get a good idea from the drawings publishe I by Lepsius.' We see the king, assisted by the sem and kher heb priests engaged in the performance of religious ceremonies, and in making offerings to Amen-Ra and other gods ; in some of the scenes he is accompanied by the " Great Queen Thi." Some of the ceremonies appear to be connected with a passage through gates ; both texts and figures are, however, very fragmentary, and it is difficult to make connected sense out of them. The face of the second pylon was sculptured with large figures of the king, who was represented in the act of slaying his enemies. On one of the door-posts is an inscription which states that Amen-hetep III. built the monument, both to father Amen, the lord of the thrones of the Two Lands, and to his own Image living upon earth ; "' the name of this Image was the king's own prenomen, i.e., Neb-Maat-Ra, ,\p* The Image is represented in the usual form of a god, and he wears on his head a sort of cap surmounted by a figure of the crescent moon with a disk within it ; its title was " lord of Ta-Kenset, great god, lord of heaven."
