At nine o'clock. this morning young McOarthy, son of engineer McCarthy of the steam shovel, now working between here and Blairmore, was run over and iistantly killed by the work train, which is auxiliary to the shovel.

The lad was taking a holiday and had only come from Creston a week ago. His body was was almost cut to pieces.

The fiercest forest. fires which have been waging fortwo weeks in the vicinity of Coleman are at last almost all extinguished, The air is still filled with smoke and the neighboring mountains bathed in deep obscurity.

It was on Sunday, July 24th. that the alarm was sent warning all that a serious «-titbreak of forest fire had taken place. The fires swept down McGillivray and Nez Percee Crecks and the situation was threateeing for Coleman. When the wing veered the flames,soon made blackened patches on the north side of Sask&toon. mountain. Coming back again they approached the Wilson ranch. No buildings, however, were burned.

Over 150 men turned out on that day to fight fires, the us ual plan being to whip with brush or back fire. Fire guards were hastily opened out and a cordon was left to protect the remaining areas.
