results in a series of tables, accompanied by such notes as are required for their elucidation.
Mr. Mackay's observations at Eubaga have not been embodied in this memoir. That gentleman, however, continues to record the various atmospheric phenomena, and his results will contribute in still further enlarging our meteorological knowledge of the Victorian Lake region.
In Tables I. and IT. the observations are given as recorded. When beyond Keroto Mr. Felkin put back the hand of his aneroid 1'07 in. This has been allowed for, and the record appears as if the instrument had not been interfered with.
The temperatures are given in all cases as recorded. Dr. Emin's means of max. and min. temperatures are deduced from observations made at 7 A.M. and 2 P.M.
The aneroid observations by Mr. Wilson and Mr. Felkin, for March, April, and May, 1879, have been reduced to the aneroid " J. Browning, No. 952." This instrument was verified at Kew in June 1880, and the error then determined ( O28 in. for the average pressure at Eubaga) has been applied to all the readings recorded.
Dr. Emin Bey's results, however, are given in their original shape, as there are no synchronous observations on record, to enable us to reduce his " Naudet, No. 1339," to the " Browning," as a standard. From observations made during four corresponding months, but not in the same years, Dr. Emin's " Naudet" appears to give readings O10 in. higher than Mr. Wilson's " Browning." This, of course, applies only to Eubaga, for at Lado, which lies about 3000 feet lower, the relative readings of the two instruments may be very different.
The rain was measured by Mr. Wilson in a circular gauge having a diameter of 3'5 inches. Our means have been computed for whole days of 24 hours.
