78 — Stable manure, oil cake and various other nitrogenous manures are not available in the Sudan, so that the use of green manures becomes imperative.

Up to .the present only three plants have been tried on a large scale, all of which, being leguminous, have the important property of increasing and storing the nitrogen supply of the soil.

All are cultivated for food and fodder throughout the Sudan, and exist in a semi-wild condition in the southern districts.
