Secondary Schools (59) The number of those who applied to enter the secondary schools this year was so large that the schools were overcrowded, despite their refusal to accept those over eighteen years of age. The number of new students admitted in October reached 801, which is more than any previous number. This is equivalent to the number of students in the four secondary schools at the same time last year. This overcrowding led to an increase in class sizes, and they should not be allowed to increase beyond this limit for the reasons mentioned above.

The system of scholarships in these schools has been discussed. These scholarships are for students who compete, and the winners receive free education. For external or internal students, this makes it easier for successful poor students to continue their studies. The number of those admitted in this way in October of this year was 106, of whom 80 were external and 26 were internal, which is less than their number last year. The number of those who applied for the secondary certificate from the schools was 177, of whom 14 were from the schools last year. The number of winners did not change, reaching 18 instead of 186. Those who owned French were 597, and those who owned English were 1014. The total number of students was 1777, and the number who passed the exam was 414.

Those who obtained the certificate in Khartoum are 111, of whom 14 are pursuing their studies in higher education or technical colleges, and 10 have joined government service. One is working in private business, and one is unemployed.

School of Medicine (60) The diploma was obtained this year by 27, and in October, 54 new students were admitted to the school, bringing the total number of students to 111. The school has made great progress in recent years, and without the assistance of professors, it would not have been possible to carry out the necessary work.

The report of Dr. Aland, from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, which was submitted at the end of the year, was satisfactory and calls for attention to the school. The official report for the year has not yet arrived, but it is hoped that it will be satisfactory as before.
