Facsimile · p. 42
And the Messenger, may God’s blessings and peace be upon him, [spoke] with complete love. We saw in him the sincerity of belief, trustworthiness, justice, and good character. He fulfilled our commands as we wished and were pleased with, and we appointed him over all the regions of Darfur. He was truthful in guiding his people and brought them into our obedience with complete sincerity. May God reward him with goodness and benevolence. He exceeded what we thought of him and his companions.
And among his regions, he excelled in his reliance on the Lord of the worlds, his anticipation of the hereafter, and his renunciation of this world in favor of what is with God. May God reward him on our behalf and on behalf of all Muslims with a great reward. As for what we appointed you to before, we only had good thoughts of you regarding your sincerity, your seeking of what is with God, your knowledge of the transience of this world and its lowliness, and your knowledge of God’s power and His ability over all things, so that you do not turn to anything except God’s pleasure. Obedience to the disbelievers, with apparent hypocrisy, is disbelief and misguidance, as it is stated. If your inner self is strong and your resolve is firm in what we thought of you, then you are obedient to us as we commanded you. Otherwise, if you know of weakness in yourself and inability to confront the disbelievers, oppose them, and cut off news from them, then come to us so that we may increase your certainty and establishment, and you may gain light and improvement, so that your heart does not turn to children, family, and companions other than God, and covet what is with them.
This is from the guidance and upbringing that God has bestowed upon us, distinguishing us from His noble saints. You know the reward of migration and striving in the cause of God from the words of God Almighty: "Those who believed and emigrated and strove in the cause of God with their wealth and their lives are of a higher rank with God. And it is they who are the successful. Give them good news, and [mention] mercy from their Lord and gardens for them, in which is lasting pleasure." (Quran 9:108-109). And His saying, Almighty: "Those who emigrated and were driven out of their homes and suffered harm in My cause and fought and were killed, I will surely remove from them their evil deeds and admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow as reward from God. And God has with Him the best reward." (Quran 3:195).
