What I have seen of your passion for obeying your Imam and defending the administration of your successor, and your apprehension of every friend who enters your kingdom, however small and insignificant his power, and of every matter that goes against his desires, however hidden its place and however slight its harm, and your fear that the interpreter may find a pretext, and that the ruler will not be free from an interpreter who agrees with him, and from a condemned person who is angry, and from one who has been turned away from judgment, and from an idler who is browsing, and from one who is amazed by his opinion, mistaken in his explanation, fond of attacking the truth and objecting to the administration, as if he were a scout for the entire nation and an agent for the inhabitants of the kingdom, who watches himself in the place of the observers and in the place of browsing the successors and the viziers, and is not excused, even if the excuse is permissible and valid, and does not stop when there is room for doubt, and does not believe that the witness sees what the absent person does not see, and that he does not know the sources of opinion if he did not witness its origins, nor its destination, and does not know its future, and from a condemned person who harbors resentment for a long time, and from a ward whom kindness has corrupted, and from one who is slow to appreciate and has taken double his due, and because of his ignorance of his worth, his narrowness of spirit, and his lack of gratitude, he thinks that what remains for him is more and that his right is more obligatory, and from one who demands more, if the ruler were to recall his past favors to him and his former praise of him, he would be worthy of that and deserving of it. He has been deceived by indulgence, spoiled by constant sufficiency, and corrupted by long idleness, and the owner of a widespread sedition, a leader in division, a critic in the tower.
