XV The Second Article (The First Chapter on the Duration of Our Stay in the City of Marseille) We anchored at the port of Marseille, which is one of the most important ports in the Maghreb. According to their custom, those coming from hostile countries must undergo quarantine before entering the city. I was quarantined for a period of ten days. The scholars of the Maghreb, as narrated to me by someone I trust for his knowledge and eloquence, met me. Among them was the esteemed scholar Sheikh Muhammad Kitab al-Manai al-Kutuni, a student of the esteemed Sidi Muhammad al-Zaytuni. And the eloquent scholar Sheikh Muhammad Tabriz, author of several books on logic and rhetoric, and he has a history of the reign of Muḥyī al-Dīn ʿUthmān. His books are attributed to the scholars of the Maghreb, such as al-Khazali, who wrote on the discussion of jurisprudence and the first part of his book, the second volume, a chapter from it. They also found there books on jurisprudence and reason, based on the Quran and Sunnah. The second is based on evidence for the judgments. And a treatise was written at the beginning of his comprehensive work, in which he discussed substitution, and it became clear that the quarantine was where they brought the travelers. And a discussion also took place between them, which corresponds to the views of others and what makes them so. The Kananian book, which they both seek, and all the work of the righteous, is in the quarantine. The lands are in their seasons. The esteemed scholar Sheikh Hayyāwish al-Kanawi, Abu San, He wrote a book, and his students gathered around him, trading in sciences. He was known for his knowledge of astronomy.
