The Abbasid state, second era, from the year 295 AH. The Caliphate of Al-Muktafi bin Al-Mu'tadid. Egypt returned to the authority of the Abbasid state during the caliphate of Al-Muktafi, and he appointed Ubayd Allah bin Al-Nu'shari over it. After 7 years, Al-Muktafi died on Monday, the 15th of Dhu al-Qi'dah, in the year 295 AH, after ruling for 7 years, 7 months, and 5 years and 3 months, at the age of 29.

The Caliphate of Al-Muqtadir bin Al-Mu'tadid. On the day of Al-Muktafi's death, his brother Ja'far Al-Muqtadir was sworn in as caliph in the year 295 AH. It is narrated that Ubayd Allah bin Al-Nu'shari was appointed over Egypt. However, he was forced to relinquish it to Muhammad bin Sulayman after a while. After a few months, circumstances necessitated the return of Al-Nu'shari, so he returned and took charge. He ruled for 7 years. In Sha'ban of the year 302 AH, he was replaced by Badr al-Hizri Abu Mansur, who ruled until the year 305 AH. He was then dismissed and replaced by Zaka al-Ruwi Abu al-Hasan al-A'war. He ruled Egypt for 7 years and died in Rabi' al-Awwal of the year 312 AH. Badr was reinstated a second time. After a few days, Badr died, leaving a son named Muhammad. This son took charge of the government of Egypt without the permission of the Caliph. The Caliph Al-Muqtadir was killed in the year 320 AH, at the age of 27 years, 11 months, and 24 days, after ruling for 25 years.

The Caliphate of Al-Qahir bin Al-Mu'tadid. His brother Al-Qahir billah, the third son of Al-Mu'tadid billah, was sworn in as caliph. He wanted to punish Muhammad bin Badr for his audacity, so he appointed Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Tughj over Egypt. From him originated the state of the Ikhshidids, who ruled Egypt for a period of time.

The Caliphate of Al-Radi bin Al-Muqtadir. Al-Qahir billah was deposed in the month of Jumada al-Ula in the year 322 AH, after ruling for 1 year, 1 month, and 6 days. On that day, his nephew Al-Radi billah bin Al-Muqtadir was sworn in as caliph.
