When the sun of the constitution shone and illuminated the palaces of the Exalted Omani State, I was inspired under this blessed tree to compile this journey in the Turkish language and named it "Sudan Seyahatnamesi". I then translated it into Arabic and added many discussions, naming it "A Journey to Egypt and Sudan". To this day, no Omani has traveled to the lands of Sudan and written about it as I have. This allows me to say that I am the first Omani to write about his journey and what we have witnessed in our travels. The Europeans, on the other hand, translated it from the travels of Europeans who roamed these vast lands. The travels of Europeans are not for our benefit but for the benefit of their countries, their children, and their students. Therefore, our benefit from them is lost. This is based on the fact that the previous despotic regime prevented the expansion of the ideas of writers and scholars, and they were confined to a limited circle. For this reason, the intended purpose of travel was absent. Furthermore, travelers from all classes and all types of thinkers know their countrymen and all the points of their possessions. This is the purpose of their travels, as most of them seek hope for the benefit of their countries and their rulers. Their ultimate hope and effort in travel and observation is to convey it to their people. This estrangement, effort, and pursuit is to preserve a good memory for their descendants. I share with many thinkers the fact that we Easterners are not only negligent in searching for distant, wild, and dangerous lands to explain their locations, lands, and resources, and the morals of their inhabitants, as Westerners do, but we are also negligent in knowing the inhabited lands we live in and benefit from their resources. We do not speak to their inhabitants with a free tongue about the benefit they derive from their lands, which cannot be compared to other lands of Sudan to which foreigners travel and risk their lives to reap their fruits. Although I do not deny the merit of our brothers in their knowledge and understanding through their travels, I see that many of these honorable individuals have taken it from the travels of Westerners without moving from their places, which contradicts what has been said.
