And by the grace of the Most Merciful, I will never forget him, even if he were embraced by the land. May his dwelling always be in the gardens of Eden, where reside the Most Merciful and the fragrant plants. And may this land always have a protector, and may God grant us guardians as long as He wills. This is the decree of the Master, dated: Tawfiq died, and Abbas took charge today. Year 1309.
I say, and it is not without divine providence, that he, may God have mercy on him, was born on a Thursday and passed away in that same Egyptian land on a Thursday. He entered Cairo in his procession after the Arab revolt on a Thursday, and he passed away to God Almighty's mercy on a Thursday. So glory be to the Eternal One who does not die, glory be to the Owner of the Kingdom and the Dominion. From Him is the beginning and to Him is the end. He is the Lord of the Hereafter and the first. To Him belongs what He takes away and what He gives, what He takes and what He keeps. And there is no doubt that we are all striving on this path, and to your Lord is the return. O God, as You guided me at the beginning, guide me at the end, and thank You for the passing days. O God, as You granted me success in truthfulness, grant me favor in the eyes of creation, and grant them the ability to excuse me and seek refuge in me, for I fear that this work may be flawed or a lost endeavor. O God, I confess that I am not of the caliber for this task, nor of the lineage for this competition. But I have placed my trust in You, my Master, so take care of me and do not leave me to myself in any matter. Show me the way, and I will follow it. You showed me the right path, and I followed it. The time is not conducive, the obstacles are not favorable, and finding leisure is difficult, and gathering my thoughts is not easy, especially since I have suffered during this work from what has overwhelmed my strength and sight, and my arm and chest, from the loss of a brother to me, on whom I relied for all my affairs, and to whom I entrusted all my actions and hopes, my only one, whose loss has inflicted upon me killing pain, sorrow, and delusion, and in my chest, its fire. Patience, my Master, has been granted to me. So I said, my Master, the Master, from this wish, its end is a return to the near.
