Report on the finances and general situation in Egypt and the Sudan for 1906 Submitted to Sir Edward Grey Part One Egypt Introduction My Lord, I wish to clarify a matter when presenting my report on the progress of the various administrative interests of the Egyptian Government in 1906. It is customary for these annual reports to mention the Egyptian conditions and events that occurred up to the end of the year preceding their publication. I occasionally refer, either in the main text or in a footnote, to some events that occurred after the end of that year and before my report was printed and published, but this is rare. Furthermore, summarizing what is received from the multiple sources for compiling these reports requires considerable effort, especially since it is accompanied by the usual work, which is a lot. Added to this is that the various departments whose reports are submitted do not mention events that occur after the end of the preceding year. My report on the Sudan does not extend to the end of the preceding year but rather to September or October of it, because the Sudan reports come from distant places, which affects the general order and the opinions formed about them. For this reason, I do not usually complete my report by mentioning what happened up to the date of my signing it. I have clarified this because I found that some people pointed out the omission in my 1905 report of any mention of events that occurred after December 31st, especially events in the Sinai Peninsula, even though my aforementioned report is dated March 8, 1906.
