And he appointed Muḥammad bin ‘Abd Allāh al-Qādir as his successor in al-Abyaḍ, and he was one of his greatest supporters who established the foundations of the Mahdist call with him. Muḥammad bin ‘Abd Allāh is mentioned in the rest of his news.

And the Mahdi’s arrival in Arad, and many people from the island came to him to pledge allegiance to him. He received them with honor and urged them to love each other and to prepare for jihad. The Mahdi stayed in Arad and sent his armies to raid Jabal al-Dāyir, which is only one day's march from Arad.
Mention of the Mahdi's war with the people of Jabal al-Dāyir.
Jabal al-Dāyir is located in the southeast of al-Abyaḍ, the capital of Kordofan. Its inhabitants are Nubian slaves. It is a mountain that is thirty miles long and a little less than that in width. Its stone is flint, and its soil is fertile, among the best lands of Kordofan. Crops grow there, and water is abundant. On that peak, there are more than a hundred villages, and each village is inhabited by more than ten thousand people. They cultivate and raise livestock in its abundant vegetation. They also have a lot of bees, so much so that honey is as valuable as water. One of the most abundant products of that mountain is a type of tobacco called "Kadkarawi," which is very intoxicating when smoked or chewed in the mouth in the known manner of "chewing." These inhabitants, like other slaves in Africa, have very dark skin, and their bodies are naked, except for small loincloths to cover their private parts.
