The inhabitants of Al-Ladana were expelled and subjected to harsh treatment in one place, where the officials of the treasury took them to their homes, beat them, and tortured them to reveal their hidden wealth and buried treasures. Many of them died from the severity of the torture. The Governor, Said Pasha, was bound to reveal what he had hidden of his wealth.

Regarding the Mahdi's meeting with the garrison of Al-Abyad: On the morning of the day set for surrender, the garrison emerged from the fort in formation, with trumpets sounding before them. The Mahdi arrived on horseback. When he approached, he stopped, dismounted, and sat on a fur. He granted Said Pasha and his officers an audience. They prostrated themselves before him and kissed his hand. He then asked one of the officers, named Yusuf Sha'ala, about his name. He replied that he was Yusuf Sha'ala, the commander of the city's outskirts, and was known for his severity. The merchants of Al-Abyad gathered around the Mahdi at that time and urged him to kill Yusuf Sha'ala. The Mahdi said to him, "You are the successor of the Messenger, and hope is placed in you. Spare him." He then took off his cloak and put it on him. He then turned to Khidr Said Pasha and said, "You killed my messenger." He replied, "I am Iskandar Bey, I killed him." He said, "They both desired martyrdom, and God bestowed upon them the grace of martyrdom." He then addressed Iskandar Bey and said, "Your brother Abdullah died an infidel with Yusuf Pasha Al-Shalali. I have advised you to surrender to me, and I fear that you will die an infidel like him and be deprived of entering paradise." He replied, "I do not wish to enter a paradise that my brother Abdullah does not enter." They departed, and he invited them to a meal. They ate, and he made them swear on the scriptures that they would not hide their wealth, as it had become spoils for him. They complied and the Mahdi entered the city and stayed for the duration of the governor's stay.
