Then they went to the house of Ya'qub, brother of Al-Tamabshi, to discuss the matter. Then it was reported to Al-Ta'ayishi, the ruler, that he had three options: either he would be ransomed, or his hand and foot would be cut off, or he would be imprisoned forever. Al-Ta'ayishi chose the latter, outwardly, but inwardly intended to kill him. He ordered Al-Sahan to place him in one of the execution rooms and to withhold food from him. He was given twelve shackles on his legs and two chains, and they withheld water from him. He cried out for water to help him with the pangs of death, but they gave him nothing. It was a very cold night, and we only felt the rain falling on the prison like the mouths of waterskins, even though it was summer and it does not rain in Sudan.

A corner of the round room collapsed, and the water filled the room up to the Sheikh's knees. He washed himself and performed ablution, and his water jug overflowed until it reached his knees. In the morning, the guards entered and found him in a terrible state, saying: "You are the last one."
